Jonathan Roberts
Thanks for visiting! I'm Jonathan. And I'd love to share my difficult story of music teaching and entrepreneurship with you.
I spent 11 years in college to earn a doctorate in piano, all with plans to teach at the collegiate level. But, I was so burned out by the toxicity of academia, I decided to teach at a community music school.
I loved working with kids in my new job. And the facilities were nice. But the pay was not.
Teachers were at the bottom of the bureaucratic totem pole. In pay, and how they were treated.
Things came to a head when I decided to teach a little on the side, and my bosses were upset. Long story short, I was forced to quit my job. All with our second child on the way and no idea how I was going to make ends meet.
But, I was determined to make this work. Not only make this work as an entrepreneur, but create a music school that prioritized the most valuable asset of any music school - the teachers.
That's how I started South Shore Piano School, which has grown to over 270 students and 9 teachers in a short three years.
On this website, I share everything I've learned so I can help other teachers who are looking to make an impact, and live the lives and careers they've always wanted.
